Labour force analysis focuses on working residents, and residents actively seeking work, providing insights into employment and unemployment changes over time. The REMPLAN quarterly Small Area Labour Force reports provide regular updates on the performance of your area’s economy. The reports provide input into strategy and policy as well as monitoring the impacts of strategic actions over time.
The REMPLAN forecasting team applies Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Labour Force Survey results, and Jobs and Skills Australia Small Area Labour Market (SALM) data to generate detailed small area insights, addressing questions such as:
The quarterly reports provide local government area specific insights into total number of employed and unemployed, changes in youth unemployment rates, understanding male and female workforce participation, changes in industry sector employment, assessment of ongoing underemployment, understanding long term unemployment and a range of other measures. Benchmark data is also provided.
Each report provides access to 10 years of data for the selected local government area. The report is in two parts, a pdf document providing a summary including infographics and an Excel spreadsheet with detailed data. Reports are updated quarterly and provide:

REMPLAN prepares Small Area Labour Force reports on a quarterly basis following releases by Jobs and Skills Australia of Small Area Labour Market data and publication of Detailed Labour Force Survey results by the ABS. These national datasets are typically published 2-3 months after the end of the relevant quarter and REMPLAN then undertakes its analysis and modelling to generate the Small Area Labour Force reports.
The schedule below is an indication of when reports will be available however this is subject to change depending on when the Jobs and Skills Australia and ABS data is released.
