Background

The Roxy Community Theatre began operating in 1930 as a 700-seat purpose-built cinema and community venue located in the Leeton Local Government Area, the Riverina Region of southern New South Wales. It is a heritage-listed cinema acting as a community venue for arts and cultural events, functions, and stage shows. Leeton Shire Council has identified the completion of Stage 2 of the Roxy Community Theatre redevelopment as a priority project targeting the Commonwealth Government’s Growing Regions Program Round 2

Project Goals

Stage 2 of The Roxy Theatre Redevelopment will complete the full Redevelopment Masterplan to deliver a multipurpose civic facility and new home for the Roxy Institute of Performing Arts (RIPA) delivering new jobs and growth. Overall, aiming to increase the venue’s capacity and flexibility and conserve an iconic Art Deco heritage listed building, and provide a new home for the Roxy Institute of Performing Arts. 

REMPLAN’s Involvement

REMPLAN supports Leeton Shire Council by undertaking an Economic Impact Assessment and Cost Benefit Analysis for Stage 2 of the Roxy Community Theatre redevelopment. This analysis will accompany the Business Case submission for Growing Regions Round 2 

The Economic Assessment was undertaken using REMPLAN regional economic modelling and analysis system. An analysis of a ‘Status Quo’ scenario where only Stage 1 is implemented, has also been undertaken. 

Results

Stage 2 was successfully funded by Growing Regions Fund Round 2 with approved funding of $800,000.
