Alliance of Rural and Regional Community Health Economic Impact Assessment

Strategy & Engagement

Background

The Alliance of Rural and Regional Community Health (ARRCH) is a coalition of 11 registered independent community health organisations with a common goal of addressing health inequity throughout Victoria’s regions. Collectively, ARRCH member organisations serve 87% of Victoria’s geographical area. The 11 registered community health organisations include Ballarat, Bellarine, Bendigo, Gateway, Gippsland Lakes, Grampians, Nexus, Northern Districts, Primary Care Connect, Sunbury Cobaw, and Sunraysia Mildura.

Project Goals

This report summarises the economic impact of the ARRCH network throughout Victoria. The economic impact of direct annual expenditure by the combined community health providers supports additional economic activity and employment throughout the Victorian State economy.

REMPLAN’s Involvement

REMPLAN supports the Alliance of Rural and Regional Community Health (ARRCH) by undertaking 11 Economic Impact Assessments (EIAs) to determine the economic impact of ARRCH organisations throughout Victoria. REMPLAN will use REMPLAN regional economic model and other inhouse software suites to complete the assessment of the 11 registered independent community health organisations.

Results

By conducting each EIA, a combined economic impact of Victoria’s region is generated. There is a direct revenue of $328.9 million produced by the ARRCH group throughout Victoria over the 2023/24 financial year, which results in a Type 2 Output Multiplier of 2.62. That is, for every dollar of direct revenue, a further $1.62 is generated elsewhere in the economy.

The total annual economic direct and indirect impacts for Victoria associated with ARRCH operations include $862.1 million in revenue, 5,230 jobs are supported, and $506.9 million in value-added.
