05 May Engaging NEW home-based businesses
REMPLAN Business Analysis Module update
The REMPLAN Business Analysis Module (BAM) is a powerful resource with a broad range of applications, providing insights for economic development and planning. The BAM software incorporates sorted and geo-coded Australian Business Register (ABR) data which together with local knowledge provides unique insights into the number and type of businesses operating in your area. This resource is used by government agencies to support funding applications, strategic planning, economic development strategies, for customer service delivery and engagement with local businesses.
The Business Analysis Module can be accessed by selecting the Business tab in REMPLAN Economy software.
The latest planning zones have recently been added to the Business tab of REMPLAN Economy software (available for government clients).
We have also made the following refinements:
- The zones are now automatically clipped to the boundary of the selected geography.
- The map legend now only presents the applicable zone types for the selected geographies.
The planning zones combined with your latest ABR data can provide many valuable insights. For example, the numbers and types of new businesses operating from general and low-density residential areas (i.e. home-based businesses).
State-wide planning zones for Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, and South Australia have been applied to the software and these map layers are automatically available for regions within these states.
Don’t see the planning zones option in your Business tab?
Not all states have a unified set of state-wide planning zones. Government agencies with access to ABR data may activate this functionality by uploading a GIS file of local planning zones (e.g. ESRI Shapefile) via: https://login.remplan.com.au/upload
REMPLAN Training
With the recent release of new data and functionality, it may be timely to schedule a refresher training session.
Training is inclusive in REMPLAN subscriptions and clients may book as many sessions as required. Below are a selection of the questions that we address during REMPLAN training sessions.
- How do I model the economic impacts of multi-stage, multi-year projects?
- How can I define a 20-minute neighbourhood around a school, train station or healthcare facility?
- What role does tourism play in our local economy? How many FTE jobs?
- How can I identify pockets of social disadvantage in our region?
- How many new businesses have been established in our region this year compared with previous years? Where are these businesses located? Can I contact these businesses?
Sessions can be tailored for people new to REMPLAN, through to advanced content for experienced users. If you would like to schedule a training session, please contact your client manager, call 1300 737 443, or click ‘Book Training’ in your REMPLAN software to select a convenient time for you and your colleagues.
REMPLAN also publishes a range of free economic and demographic data which can be viewed by visiting our Data Explorers webpage.
