12 Oct Online Economic Profile Trend Data Update – Unemployment Rate
All public access REMPLAN economic profiles have now been updated with the latest area-specific unemployment rates. These estimates are sourced from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations’ (DEEWR) Small Area Labour Markets (SALM) datasets. SALM data incorporates three primary datasets:
- Centrelink data on people in receipt of Newstart or Youth Allowance (Other), by postcode (not including people in receipt of the Community Development Employment Projects Participant Supplement)
- ABS Labour Force Survey data at the ABS Labour Force Region level
- 2006 Census of Population and Housing labour force data at the Statistical Local Area level.
The estimates presented have been smoothed by DEEWR using a four-quarter average to minimise the variability inherent in the estimates at the Statistical Local Area level.
DEEWR releases SALM estimates on a quarterly basis; the latest data is for June 2012, with September quarter data scheduled for release in December 2012. Public access REMPLAN economic profiles are updated as new data is released from agencies such as DEEWR and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
