21 Dec REMPLAN Employment Projections
REMPLAN now provides “employment by industry projections” from 2006 to 2016. Over this period employment and population trends across industry sectors are observed and the REMPLAN Workforce Analysis Module (WAM) is applied to estimate the likely propensity of new residents to also work locally.
The following provides an example of the data, graphs and tables within REMPLAN’s employment projections.
Figure 1 Example: Regional City – Employment Projections (2006 to 2016) – Manufacturing
According to the ABS 2006 Census, employment of the regional city’s residents in the Manufacturing sector is estimated at 4,664 jobs. Taking into account the ABS Labour Force Survey as well as population by age cohort forecasts, the projected level of employment in Manufacturing by 2016 is 4,215 jobs – a 9.6% decrease in employment within this industry sector.

According to the ABS 2006 Census, employment of the regional city’s residents in the Retail Trade sector is estimated at 5,733 jobs. Taking into account the ABS Labour Force Survey as well as population forecast based employment estimates, the projected level of employment in Retail Trade by 2016 is 6,734 jobs – a 17.5% increase in employment within this industry sector.
Summary of Industry Employment Projections
The employment data represents workers who reside in the regional city. Total employment by August 2016 is estimated at 45,508 jobs (an increase of 5,401 employees from 2006), which represents an annualised growth rate of 1.27% over the ten year period.
