Background
Many state and regional strategic plans identify the City of Port Macquarie as a regional centre, along with Orange, and Bathurst, which are import hubs for economic activity in regional NSW. Opportunities from agriculture, healthcare, transport, and logistics, along with education and training are expected to support future population growth. The purpose of the report is to support growth in the region’s economic capacity and resilience of local industries.
Project Goals
Council needed a two staged approach to developing their next Economic Development Strategy for Port Macquarie-Hastings. An assessment of Opportunities and Gaps was necessary to inform a more comprehensive EDS.
REMPLAN’s Involvement
REMPLAN completed a full suite of analyses for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to determine where opportunities and gaps lie for the region. These included:

This Opportunity and Gap Analysis identifies a range of opportunities, weaknesses and risks relevant to PMH LGA and seeks to provide an overview of local drivers across economic performance, population, geographic accessibility, natural assets, and local supply chains. These inputs are assisting Port-Macquarie Hastings Council in the preparation of their Economic Development Strategy.
