Tennis NSW: Project Assessment Support

Sport & Recreation

Background

Tennis NSW collaborates with local partners to redevelop regional hubs and significant venues across regional NSW. In 2018, five projects were nominated due to their strong alignment with State Government strategic objectives. These projects required further assessment for funding via the NSW Regional Growth Fund (Performance and Participation). Tennis NSW led or supported Local Government partners in submitting the final funding application.

Project Goals

Tennis NSW required an assessment of each nominated project to clearly demonstrate the potential direct and indirect economic benefits to the local, regional, and state economies. Each assessment encompassed a social and community profile, an economic impact analysis, and a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) where relevant.

REMPLAN’s Involvement

REMPLAN assessed each nominated project to determine their alignment with the objectives of various funding sources, including the NSW Regional Growth Fund. The analysis included:

  • The local community context, focussing on demographic data such as age, family structure, and sports participation.
  • Social and community profile data, incorporating population forecast and linking demographic change with tennis facility demand.
  • Economic impact assessments were prepared for key project phases, including planning and design, construction, operation, and tourism expenditures.
  • A CBA that calculated the project’s net present value, considering capital investment and projected operational income and costs.

Results

John Matthews Sporting Complex (Bathurst), Parks Tennis Club, and the Treloar Park Tennis Club received funding from various sources and have completed construction.
